Update 22 June

June 22, 2013 By Phixwd Leave a Comment

There is another new crossword on the site – another musical one, but from a different source.

Meanwhile, I have encountered another crossword blog, which I have added to the list over there on the right – idothei.  This is a blog about solving the cryptic crosswords that are published in The i, a sister paper to The Independent, containing more summarised news, and rather cheaper.  The crosswords themselves are reprints of puzzles that have already appeared in The Independent.  We don’t get another fee, but since the paper is happy for me to trot out some of my older material without monetary consequence, I can hardly complain if they do the same.  Because the puzzles are reprints, idothei makes reference to the relevant fifteensquared blogs if they can be tracked down.  I have been somewhat tardy in finding the blog, so the best I can do is offer a belated welcome.

I hope you’re familiar with TED –  a splendid source of varied presentations on intellectual endeavour in the arts and sciences.  I’ve often wondered when TED would get round to crosswords, and I learned this week that the answer to my question is 23 September 2013.  TEDxAlbertopolis is coming to the Royal Albert Hall that day, and John Halpern (aka Paul of The Guardian) is giving a talk as part of the celebrations of the crossword’s centenary. The bunting from the Last Night of the Proms (on which I have a crossword in the September BBC Music Magazine) will be cleared away, and the stage filled with screens and keyboards.  The TEDxAlbertopolis link above will take you to a site where the full range of speakers is listed.
