As promised, the new puzzle today is one where the essential gimmick is a sort of joke (however witty or otherwise the actual clues are). The penny-dropping moment isn’t meant to be so much ‘Aha, so that’s what he’s doing’ as ‘He hasn’t really done that, has he?’ I judge its success from the fact that it elicited two emails from people who scarcely ever email me (in fact, I don’t think one of them has ever done so since, so presumably Persuasion wasn’t as funny…).
I now have one of the two UK crossword centenary books, but I’ll await the arrival of the not-yet-published second before attempting to blog a sort of comparative review. Heavens, I might even read them first…
