Back to putting up another puzzle after last time’s computer problems. As promised, I’ve gone back to 1995 and pulled out the Independent Saturday Magazine crossword I did then on Tom Swifties. (Thanks as always to the Independent for permission to republish.) Unlike the Inquisitor earlier this year where the use of the particular type of wordplay emerged from the solving of the puzzle, this one tells you up front how the process works – it’s even called Tom Swifties. Being upfront like this is one way of making a puzzle easier, of course, so this one shouldn’t be so bad.
Toughie solvers will get a Kcit on Wednesday, while last time’s hiatus robbed me of the chance to announce an upcoming début for Pedro in the Times Quick Cryptic, an appearance which is presumably now downgoing. (But there’s another one in the queue.)
For now, back to the oven – our supermarket had lots of very cheap, but very ripe, bananas today, so there’s been a mini-orgy of baking – muffins, loaves, smoothies and even a Bundt cake.
