The seasonal puzzles are beginning to emerge, so here‘s a less seasonal one to be going on with. Thanks to the EV editor for agreeing to republish it.
The next fortnight’s update lands squarely in the middle of Christmas, so I shall probably unearth a seasonal Beelzebub for you. The fact that Christmas Day falls on a Friday means no Phiday in The Independent that week, so my seasonal daily puzzle arrives on the 18th. Beyond that there are a couple of appearances in The Times to round off the year: a Pedro on 21 December, and a full-size puzzle on 28 December, which I estimate to be my 3,000th published puzzle. (Keeping a record for 30 years means that that estimate is almost certainly wrong, but it will suffice!) Maybe that fig and coffee beer (that was more expensive than the wine we bought the same day) could be trotted out…
But this is the last update before the festive season, so a Merry Christmas to all my readers. APEX recipients can look forward to an email in the next few days, while I’m sure that Maskerade and Azed (inter alia) will be making their usual seasonal appearances. And don’t forget Eclogue’s ongoing series at the Crossword Centre.
