The first of the summer’s public holidays today giving me an extra day to get something up at last. As befits a public holiday, it is tipping it down outside and has been off and on all the long weekend. (Off just enough to allow some washing to dry, to be fair.) That’s allowed me to send off some puzzles and fill some grids, and to realise that, after all that, there’s still a deadline lurking around the next corner.
I’m about to send off the last of my Christmas puzzles, while the ever-turning calendar has thrown up a Phiday Friday on February 14 2025. And the stuttering ideas process chose last month to come up with a neat idea for April 1. People who bang on about planning have no idea what it takes just to keep your eye on upcoming dates.
A daily puzzle from way back in 2007 today, predating the explosion of blogging that is being celebrated in York this weekend. No Nina or theme to be discovered.
Hallowe’en sees a Kcit Toughie, after which November gets off to a quiet start with only the Friday Independent puzzles on 1 and 8 November. But next time, ah, next time…
Now for some ironing, and then making shortbread – and not ‘ironing shortbread’ as I have on my to-do list…

Great puzzle thanks, it helped kill half an hour of enforced lying in bed due to a heavy cold. I wasn’t sure about 6 down. Presumably Capitalist rather than Maximalist but l couldn’t parse it.
All the best, Paul
