Apex 2009 solution

The orders of angels are: SERAPHIM, CHERUBIM, THRONES, DOMINATIONS, VIRTUES, POWERS, PRINCIPALITIES, ARCHANGELS, and ANGELS.  (As noted by Chambers, DOMINATIONS can appear as DOMINIONS, and other orderings are seen.)  The perimeter gave THRONES to PRINCIPALITIES, and ARCHANGELS was unclued in the central column.  The last word provided by the latent letters was ANGEL.  The letter sums of each latent word in turn gave CHERUBIM, leaving SERAPHIM as the word to be clued.
