The Man with a Gun solution

This being a relatively recent puzzle, there is a solver’s blog at fifteensquared, and my own setter’s blog elsewhere on this site.

Fun fact: The Man with a Gun is the fourth movement of Havergal Brian’s English Suite No. 4 (subtitled ‘Kindergarten’). Other movements of the suite include ‘Death of Bunny’ and ‘Ashanti Battle Song’, which does make you wonder about Victorian kindergartens.
