This fortnight’s update is an Independent Jumbo crossword from 1992. Next week, breaking with the fortnightly routine (well, it is Christmas), I hope to put up an unpublished puzzle from something like 30 years ago. Solvers who want a further helping of me at Christmas may like to subscribe to the Telegraph’s crossword site, where they will be able to sample an online-only Kcit puzzle on Christmas Day. I’ve managed a puzzle on New Year’s Day before now – I think this is the first time I’ve managed to get one published on 25 December.
My library was boosted this week by the arrival of the latest edition of Bradford. Bradford’s Crossword Solvers’ Dictionary, to give it its full title, has reached its silver anniversary and its ninth edition. It has been more or less indispensable since the first edition, and each new one is a must-buy (and here’s where you can buy it). When I get to penning a section on the site about reference books for setters and solvers, it will get almost as much space as the other big red book. Don’t be misled by the title – it’s a solvers’ dictionary at least partly because so many setters look to it as well. It looks like an edition is now available for the Kindle – or, at least, it is available on Kindle in the UK. Those of us who have to use the Amazon.com Kindle store are not so lucky.
That’s all for now – my partner has a Christmas craft fair tomorrow, so I’m sticking this up early. Do nip over to her site at Whskr and line up some purchases for 2013.
