Just a brief follow-up to yesterday’s comments.
Having done all those book reviews, I should point out that I haven’t actually seen either of the UK books in the shops here – my copies came via Amazon. Or, at least, hadn’t until yesterday, appropriately enough, when I found two copies of Alan Connor’s book in the bookshop in the little Wairarapa town of Carterton (Carterton has previously thrown up a Magnus Magnusson translation of Halldor Laxness in its stationery shop, as well as the germ of an idea for one of the APEX puzzles, so it’s an unusual wee town).
And then, this morning NZ time, I managed to Skype into the events at Penderel’s Oak in Holborn for a short while. Very good to see everyone (once the pixels had settled down and stopped making people look like rejected Francis Bacon sketches), and my thanks to Mike Hutchinson for taking his iPad along.
