Still trying to get back into the swing of things, so I thought I’d settle for a straightforward plain. My eye was guided to it by remembering a comment on fifteensquared that one solver had never seen Phi use a grid where lights had more unchecked letters than checked. So here you are…except it may be as well to remember that the Nina goes back quite a way as well.
I’m working on another article, which will début in a couple of months. I do a lot of ‘ghost themes’ for the Independent (yesterday’s being no exception), and bloggers regularly comment on the need for such themes to be there for people who want to hunt things out, but not so obtrusive that you need specialist knowledge to solve them. The one coming up has been the subject of an email exchange which has caused me to modify expectations of what I’m going to put in the clues when I write them shortly. It won’t be a clue-by-clue account of writing the puzzle, but just a short note on what goes through my mind when I’m putting a ghost theme together.
