Just in case anyone was interested. Rather darker than expected due to the presence of brown rather than caster sugar, but it smells wonderful. The feijoas behind it are mostly this morning’s windfalls, from the one tree which is advanced enough to have windfalls. The other two trees have fewer feijoas but will keep us going for a month or so. Watch out for the feijoa, ginger and coconut shortbread…

Hi Paul –
Well, if the (seemingly, for now, which I only mention as I’d hate to tempt Fate!) fantastic way in which NZ is handling this plague wasn’t sufficient reason to make some comment, then the picture of your cake certainly is!
If I didn’t know, I’d be hard-pressed to realise it’s a cake! However, as we have no such thing here (at least, not in any abundance) I took to Wikipedia – naturally. Having now learnt of its wonderful taste – and that trees grow in your garden – how can I be anything but envious? In the nicest possible way of course! Maybe this fruit, together with your PM, are the secret ingredients of your nation’s success?
Most of all, these mullings give me the excuse to wish you (who has given me much pleasure) and yours all the very best at this time.
Now – how on earth do I get a slice?! Perhaps you could go into the cake business PC (Post Corona)?!
All the best,
William F Parker
